Overview
A pedagogy-focused, week-long training for current and aspiring educators of Acro, led by Blox and assisted by Christine Moonbeam, with guest specialists (including non-acrobats) brought in on specific topics. Combines lectures, group discussions, hands-on workshops, introspection and group activities to help participants refine their own teaching/coaching style — the journey from instructor to teacher to coach to mentor — plus the practical side of running an education business.
Format: listening & speaking (lectures, group discussion), observation (watching and analysing the facilitators coaching), practice (coaching each other and exchanging feedback), class preparation (progressive skill-planning), and reflection (solo contemplation and worksheets). Acro content is minimal — morning movement, some free jamming, and performing skills to support coaching practicums — this is a study of pedagogy and coaching technique, not an acro skills training.
Includes an average of 6 hours of focused class time a day, a lead-up discovery call with each accepted applicant, personal attention from the facilitators, inclusion in an emerging community of acro educators, social networking, a certificate of completion on request, and a 5% discount on other PPA offerings. Food and accommodation are not included — the venue has a full commercial kitchen, and Asheville has short-term rentals, hotels and a local acro community that may host.
Not suitable for beginners: physical ability to perform the skills is not a strict prerequisite, but applicants must understand the mechanics of the foundational poses/movements in the area they want to teach (standing, L-basing, icarian or solo — see prerequisites).
